3.5/5 STARS

When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world. As the two become unexpected allies, they uncover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption.

I loved and didn't love this novel.
I read Cruel Beauty by Hodge and automatically knew it was a 4/5 stars. However upon reading Crimson Bound I found myself struggling with my thoughts on the novel and how I was going to rate this.

I feel a little let down, the romance building was just off, from looking at someone all the time and barely speaking to them to all of a sudden being in love with them?!
The ending annoyed me and was super disappointing, I expected it to be a little more romantic? I expected just.... MORE!

I liked the characters, well most of them - some of them were too hot or too cold or didn't know what they were and it was really quite frustrating.

I went into this with high expectations after reading Cruel Beauty and I think that hurt the review in the end because I expected a lot more.

TIP - If you've read Cruel Beauty and loved it, do not go into this expecting it to give you the same 'feels' - you'll probably enjoy it a lot more that way.
