4/5 STARS

Groomed to be the perfect highborn Victorian young lady, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has a decidedly different plan for herself. After the loss of her beloved mother, she is determined to understand the nature of death and it's workings. Trading in her embroidery needle for an autopsy scalpel,

Audrey secretly apprentices in forensics. She soon gets drawn into the investigation of serial killer Jack the Ripper, but to her horror, the search for clues brings her far closer to her sheltered world than she ever thought possible.

I've been wanting to read Stalking Jack the Ripper for a few months now and finally plucked up the courage to purchase it. I tend not to stray too far from fantasy novels so it was a first reading a novel like this and whilst at times a little 'grotesque' I found myself enjoying the novel immensely.

The characters are intriguing; Audrey Rose, our main protagonist, was an interesting woman and I loved her and her ambitions to be more than just a walking doll. She was smart, quick with her words and short tempered; she doesn't take things lying down, she was a beautiful created character - Very Watson!
However, the character I loved the most was Thomas. He gave me Sherlock Holmes vibes, he was incredibly smart, articulate, handsome and his arrogant flirtatious behaviour with Audrey Rose had me swooning.
'Jack' was a masterfully created character, I can't say much without giving away spoilers but Maniscalco did a wonderful job.

The novel was well paced, I didn't find myself getting bored but I feel like the ending could have been more, it felt a little rushed.

I look forward to reading more of Maniscalcos' work.

NOTE; I went into this novel knowing nothing other then the title.
