The Rose & the Dagger

In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad is forced from the arms of her beloved husband, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once thought Khalid a monster - a merciless killer of wives, responsible for immeasurable heartache and pain- but as she unraveled his secrets, she found instead an extraordinary man and a love she could not deny. Still, a curse threatens to keep Shazi and Khalid apart forever.

Now's she's reunited with her family, who have found refuge in the desert, where a deadly force is gathering against Khalid- a force set on destroying his empire and commanded by Shazi's spurned childhood sweetheart. Trapped between loyalties to those she loves, the only thing Shazi can do is act. Using the burgeoning magic within her as a guide, she strikes out on her own to end both this terrible curse and the brewing war once and for all. But do it, she must evade enemies of her own to stay alive.

The sumptuous saga that began with The Wrath & the Dawn takes it's final turn as Shahrzad risks everything to find her way back to her one true love again.

This duology is simply beautiful. It's fantasy and romance done right! Shazi and Khalid will forever be one of my favourite couples, they were just beautiful characters and Ahdieh wrote them perfectly! I love that Shazi is not some defenseless woman awaiting to be rescued by her Knight in shining armour; she rescues herself, she is strong and determined and for that I love her. Some of the male characters in this book made me so frustrated! I just wanted to throttle them, they were so ignorant, arrogant and self appointed a**holes. Thank goodness there were a few who male characters such as Jalal, Rahim and Khalid who weren't pig headed morons. The pace in the book never slows, it's constant go go go, so I found myself flying through the pages in utter anticipation. I can't wait to read more of Ahdiehs' novels, if they're anything like this duology, I know I'll be hooked instantly.
