• Jay Kristoff

Destined to destroy empires, Mia Corvere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death.

Six Years Later, the child raised in shadows takes her first steps towards keeping the promise she made on the day she list everything.

But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, so if she is to have her revenge, Mia must become a weapon without equal. She must prove herself against the deadliest of friend and enemies, and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and daemons at the heart of a murder cult.

The Red Church is no ordinary school, but Mia is no ordinary student.

The shadows love her.

And they drink her fear.

Where do I even begin?! Take a bow and a round of applause Kristoff, Nevernight is a masterpiece.

Nervernight is really unique. Whilst it was difficult at the start to get into, due to the writing style and trying to get my head around the footnotes, I soon found myself slipping into it with ease. It wasn’t long after that that I became obsessed with this novel, so much so that I didn't want to put it down... even to sleep!

To be honest, I usually struggle with over-descriptive writing – and this novel is very descriptive, but I honestly can't fault it here; it was perfect. If it was less descriptive, it wouldn't have been what it is (obviously) and to me it's a bloody stroke of genius.

Now, let’s get to the nuts and bolts. The main protagonist is Mia, and I won't say much as this is a spoiler-free review, but goddamn, I loved her! Kristoff created such beautifully dark characters in this series, and Mia is the darkest of them all. I loved her for it (also she has the mouth of a sailor, something we in common, haha).

To me, Kristoff’s different writing style is what I loved best. The gore, crude language, and flirtation had me hooked, and the satire had me laughing at the most inappropriate of times (which was a lot). On a side note, I don’t think I’ll able to eat bacon for a very long time, if ever, haha. (Dammit, I loved bacon.)

I could just rave on about everything in this book, I LOVED IT! (I had to caps that just to get my point across.) This novel is nothing but utter genius and I can't wait to get my hands on Nevernight 2'!!!
